Founded in 1969, Portland Rugby Club is Maine's premier rugby club.The club's long history makes it one of the supporting pillars of New England Rugby, routinely fielding two men's sides and one women's side each weekend, encompassing players of all ages and levels of experience.

About PRFC
Maine's premier rugby club.

Portland men's team is newly promoted to NERFU Division 1 while the women's teams currently competes in Division 2. Both teams have their primary league season during the Fall, and enjoy competitive "friendly" fixtures with teams from all leagues throughout the rest of the year. We welcome new players anytime, allowing novices to pick up the game and learn at their own pace. More experienced players should easily fit in with our well-seasoned squad.

    PRFC since 2001. President since 2012. NorCal native with rugby roots in Redwood H.S. and Humboldt State. Now gone completely native.

  • Tom Lovering
    Head Coach

    PRFC since 1994. Head Coach since 2010. Welsh or English or something. USAR 300 Certified.

  • Nick Marchant
    Club Captain

    PRFC since 2010. Currently in his fifth year with the club, Nick is our new captain for the 2015-16 season.

    Club Secretary

    PRFC since 2011. Eats, sleeps and drinks PRFC. Well, mostly just drinks. Contact Brian for fixtures.

  • Jeremy Hammond

    PRFC since 2012. Holder of the purse strings and director of wealth management for the club. Usually injured.

  • Matt Winch
    Assistant Coach

    PRFC since 1995. Played almost every position during his playing career, now sharing his wisdom with the current crop. Also S&C consulting for those that will listen.

New Club Shop Open

The club has inked a new partnership agreement with Zoti Sports for the coming season to provide a full line of on-field and off-field apparel.

Fall D2 Schedule Finalized

The off season saw yet another league restructuring, with the Atlantic Premiership clubs returning to also compete in Division 1, bumping the bottom clubs, Hartford, Portland and Amoskeag, back down to Division 2. So, despite a 3-5 record in D1, we find ourselves back in our old division.

Portland Rugby Presents: Pig & Beer on the Pier

Portland Rugby presents: "Pig & Beer on the Pier" - our first public festival and pig roast to benefit the Men's, Women's and Youth clubs. The event will be held Saturday May 9, 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Maine State Pier.

Spring Schedule Firming Up

The men's team has scheduled a number of pre-season games which, weather permitting, will provide a good tune up for the opening league game on April 4th. The current schedule is posted below, but stay tuned for additional games to be tagged on later in the season.


Portland wrap up the season with 2-2 league record

Portland experienced both the highs and the lows in their first season back in Division 1, coming away with a 2-2 record in league play.

Training Moves To Memorial Stadium

With the fading daylight we have moved training to the fllodlit Memorial Stadium at Deering High School. The time slot has also changed, with training on Tuesday now beginning at 8pm and on Thursday at 7pm.
